Assessment and Verification
DTS has delivered Assessor and Verifier training and certification for many years having delivered D32/33/34 awards, and then the A1 – assess using a range of methods and V1 internally quality assure the assessment process. We now offer the New (Sept 2010) Assessor and Internal Quality Assurance awards and certificates. We are an approved Edexcel centre.
New Qualifications for Assessors
Three Level 3 awards and a Level 3 Certificate are accredited qualifications for assessors.
Each has one or more units in common.
- Level 3 Award in Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment
- Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement
- Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment
- Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement
Qualifications for Internal Quality Assurance Staff (replaces V1)
Two Level 4 awards and one Level 4 Certificate are accredited for internal quality assurance staff (these may have been referred to as ‘internal verifiers’). Each qualification has one or more units in common.
- Level 4 Award in Understanding the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice
- Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice
- Level 4 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice
Delivery Strategy
Whilst the new qualifications have an independent knowledge unit which could be achieved separately, we aim to deliver the units in a combination suited to the role of the assessor or IQA. We therefore integrate and deliver the units holistically incorporating the knowledge into the activity based units recognising the development through practise.
We start with a induction into the award tailoring the programme to suit the area in which the candidate will work. We then work with candidates within the work environment to support guide and assess the work undertaken using a range of methods that ensure candidates understand and can operate effectively in their role as achievement is reached.
Our flexible approach allows for a range of delivery timescales dependant upon needs from short compact approach to a longer duration. However it is often the opportunities for assessment to be practised that dictate the duration of the award.
